NJIT's Theatre Program began the Newark Playwright's Festival as a way to encourage and support emerging young playwrights aged high school through college right here in Newark. This festival pairs each playwright with professional mentors to guide them through feedback and rewrites, observing rehearsal on their short play, and seeing their piece performed for an audience. The public is invited to this free final presentation of readings of all of the plays selected--a wonderful way to celebrate the beginnings of ushering a new play into being.
